Story of Lavonne Bogart

December 16, 2017

“Unity took care of everything. I had the idea that hospice just took care of patients, but Unity cared about everybody in the family.”

“I met Lavonne when I was a junior in high school. Six years ago, doctors discovered a lump in her breast. She made the choice to have a double mastectomy. She was great for three years, but then her cancer came back in her hip, bones and liver. She got really weak toward the end and wanted to stay home. I agreed to take care her the best that I could.

I wouldn’t have been able to do it alone – never in a million years. Unity took care of everything. I had the idea that hospice just took care of patients, but Unity cared about everybody in the family.

I was impressed that anything I asked for was often there within the same day. I even called Unity on night at 3:00am because Lavonne got sick and I needed assistance washing her up. Unity arrived within a half hour. When they say 24 hours a day, seven days a week, they mean it!”

—Jim Bogart, Lavonne’s husband of 59 years
