Testimonial of Tom Wavrunek

“I have met many wonderful people throughout the years and from all “walks-of-life”. Patients and family members have provided much wisdom for me.”

My parents were my example when I was younger. They often volunteered their assistance to relatives, neighbors and friends. Also, at our church functions. As my parents aged, they received much help from community resources including Meals on Wheels. I felt it was important for me to “give back” for what my parents received. I did Meals on Wheels for 1 year and eventually found that Unity had a need for volunteers. It feels right and good to reach out to people who require assistance. I have met many wonderful people throughout the years and from all “walks-of-life”. Patients and family members have provided much wisdom for me.

My feelings are that you always receive more than you give. This has been so true for me. Also, for me, volunteering keeps my problems in perspective. The patients and family members I meet often face difficulties with such grace and patience. Volunteering is not like a job, but I do miss the schedule if I can’t make it. I miss the workers at St. Vincent’s and the office at Unity along with the people I meet when delivering meds or supplies.
